Captain Jeff Hayes began his voluntary career at Pierce County Fire District #27 in October of 2009 following almost 25 years of numerous deployments in the US Air Force. After three short years as a Firefighter, Engineer and Fireboat Deckhand, he aspired to recertify as an EMT after a 26-year hiatus. Eventually Boat Operator became the next milestone to achieve.
His boating and leadership skills eventually netted a promotion to Lieutenant within the Marine Division. Within a few years, he was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Marine Division. He is certified as a Washington State Emergency Vehicle Incident Program driver/trainer, Marine Operator/Instructor, Nationwide CPR instructor, Fire Instructor 1, and Emergency Medical Services Skills Evaluator. Additionally, Captain Hayes provides full time maintenance to the department’s numerous rolling assets.
